Camp Xstream Guides & Instructors

We utilize the best and most experienced instructors in Adventure Racing. Each camp will have a different crew, but you will see team members from Team Salomon Crested Butte, and Boulder Performance Network. Special thanks to Brian Wickenhauser, Jon Brown, Eric (Sully) Sullivan, and Jari Kirkland of Team Salomon Crested Butte and Danny Suter of Boulder Performance Network. Their vast racing experience and personal training expertise will be an invaluable resource to camp participants.

Gravity Play Sports was founded in 1999 by Will & Jenny Newcomer. Since 1999 Gravity Play Sports has produced dozens of Adventure Races and Camps, Adventure Retreats, and Mountain Bike races in Colorado and Utah.

The Camp Xstream staff are highly skilled, fun people with backgrounds in: Adventure Racing; Outdoor Education; Sports Psychology; Physiology; Health & Medicine; Corporate Teambuilding & Management; Personal Training; Yoga; Environmental Education; Life Coaching and more. Like you, we are busy professionals and parents who take time away to share our knowledge, support & guidance.

Each camp uses a variety of guides and instructors. Depending on the camps size there will be between 10 and 20 instructors specializing in specific adventure racing disciplines. Below are some bios on a few of our core instructors.

Danny Suter…Certified Personal Trainer and Licensed Endurance Coach, Owner of Boulder Performance Network

Danny has competed in Ironman, Eco Challenges, the Raid Gauloises, as well as hundreds of triathlons, road/mountain bike races, adventure races and running events around the world. But its not his experience that makes him an awesome instructor at our camps, it is his enthusiasm…There is no way any one can be cranky about an early start to the day with Danny around.

In words from Ian Adamson…

"Danny Suter is one of the most experienced and skilled endurance coaches in the multi-sport business. I highly recommend his training programs for adventure athletes of any level or for people wanting to hone their skills or fitness."

- Ian Adamson, Adventure Racer - Team Nike, Author of Runner's World guide to Adventure Racing, and seven time Adventure Racing World Champion, Boulder, CO.

Team Salomon Crested Butte

Jari Kirkland, Jon Brown, Brian Wickenhauser, Eric (Sully) Sullivan

Back in 2002, Team Crested Butte was made up of a group of "fun loving rocky mountain knuckleheads" who resided in one of the worlds top rated natural playgrounds. The team started big by jumping into New Zealands Southern Traverse. Not ones to back away from challenge, this was their very first race and is considered by some to be one of the most difficult multi-sport events on the planet. The team didn’t meet with immediate success and the group was retooled the following year a couple of times. When all was said and done Team Crested Butte emerged for the 2003 Subaru Primal Quest ready to prove something - and that is exactly what happened. Team Crested Butte placed 11th in one of the premier races in the world.

The breakout success provided momentum which carried the team into 2004 racking up a tight win at the season opener of the Adventure Xstream series in Moab, Utah and a 4th place finish at the Appalacian Extreme in Maine. All of this success brought us into partnerships with Salomon Sports, Fuji Bikes, Newcastle Limited, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, CAMP, Backpackers Pantry, Kialoa Paddles, Adventure Racing Concepts and resulted in our current incarnation - Team Salomon / Crested Butte.
